Homage to Vostanik Series of 6 sheets 1993 |

Context: Arshile Gorky (real name – Vostanik Adoian), 1904-1948. American artist of Armenian descent. One of the best known of his works is "The Artist and his Mother." Gorky in various years made several versions of this painting. The source was a photograph of little Vostanik with his mother made in Armenia in 1912. For the first sheet of Khatchatrian's series a detail of this photograph was used. For the later sheets of the series – a detail of Gorky's painting. |
